One wall of the room is mostly glass doors, and they open onto a curved balcony with a steel rail and a chair. What you see from there is pine trees, then a hazy ridge, with a narrow road winding along the slope below.

The room has a double bed under a red cover, two armchairs with red cushions, a wall-mounted TV and a ceiling fan. None of the photos shows a desk, so ask the owner what you would work at. Outside, a stone patio with black metal chairs sits in front of the white building.

Safety in Dharamkot

Dharamkot has hosted long-stay travellers for decades, and the cafes on the main lane stay open until about 11 at night. The gaps are practical ones: one small pharmacy and no clinic in the village, so anything beyond the basics means a walk down to McLeod Ganj, and anything urgent means Delek Hospital's 24-hour emergency ward further down the hill.
