About wfh.
We find homes in the hills that you can really work from.
Work From Hills is a small company with one job. We list homes and private rooms in India's hill towns, by the week or the month, and we check each one before you see it.
"High speed wifi" on a booking site can mean anything. When your salary depends on a video call, you need the number, the date it was measured, and someone who will tell you about the power cuts. That is what a listing here gives you.

Who runs this
Sarthak. He is the person you deal with.

Work From Hills is owned and run by Sarthak, from Panipat in Haryana, a few hours' drive from the hills on this site. He chooses every home himself. He has gone through the photos of 243 small stays so far and said no to 163 of them, mostly for the same reasons you would: too big, too dark, too much like a hotel.
He is also the person at the other end. When you send a booking request, he reads it, rings the partner to confirm your dates, and calls you back, usually the same day. If the internet drops in your second week, the message goes to him too.
That is deliberate. A site with ten thousand listings cannot know its homes. One person with a short list can, and can be held to what the listing says.
How a home gets listed
Four steps, and most places do not get past the first.
01
Sarthak looks at the place
He goes through the photos of every small stay we find in a town. A hotel block, a windowless room or a desk facing a wall ends it there. Most places stop at this step.
02
He talks to the person who runs it
One phone call, sometimes three. We ask about the internet, the power backup, the heating, the walk to the door, and whether they want people who stay for weeks and work all day.
03
We stay and test
Two days in the home, working from its desk. We run the speed test, see what the backup keeps running in a power cut, and note the road, the steps and the nearest hospital.
04
It goes on the site with its numbers
The wifi speed with the date it was tested, the weekly and monthly price, and the drawbacks too. If a home has 30 steps or no heater, the listing says so.
We look for small places run by the people who own them: a cottage in an orchard, a room above a family's home, a mud house on a ridge. We do not list hotels, resorts or chains, and we would sooner send you to a quiet village than to a busy mall road.
The money
How we earn, in plain numbers.
You pay the price on the listing
No booking fee or service charge is added on top. Sending a request costs nothing, and you pay only after we have confirmed the dates with the partner and sent an invoice.
The partner pays us 10%
Only on a stay that is booked. Listing is free. We earn nothing from a home that nobody books, which is one reason we list few.
You can cancel with notice
14 days before move-in for a stay of one or two weeks, 30 days for anything longer, and you get your money back.
The full rules are in the cancellation and refund policy. If you have a home to list, the partner page has the terms.
Where we are
Two places so far, and we add a town only when it has homes worth listing.
More of Himachal and Uttarakhand come next, then Ladakh and Kashmir, and after that hill towns in the north-east and the south. Until a town has homes, we still write about it: the town guides and the blog cover getting there, the seasons, the internet and what a month costs.
See the homes, the speeds and the prices. Ask Sarthak anything before you book.
